In this publication, the authors attempted to critically rethink and generalize the
publications of military and civilian officials and officers of the Russian General Staff. It should be noted
that under the conditions of the dominance of the Tsarist Russian Empire, when the growth of national
and spiritual self-awareness of the peoples of Central Asia was suppressed, insufficient attention was paid
to the study of the rich historical and cultural heritage of the Kazakh people by officials of the colonial
apparatus. Moreover, the ideologists of the tsarist colonial administration deliberately falsified and
distorted the real events of past years; in their perception, the nomads were presented as savages and
barbarians, incapable of cultural development. Representatives of the colonial administration, due to their
lack of knowledge of the rich language, national culture and way of life of the Kazakhs, made serious
mistakes and errors, especially when analyzing the multifaceted aspects of Kazakh ethnography.
