The article reveals new approaches to historical events in Uzbekistan during the Soviet period, based on previously little-known historical sources. The author emphasizes the need for an objective view of the past and present - the main methodological principle of historical research. Based on a brief historical excursion into the Soviet past, the article argues the expediency of celebrating, in particular, significant events of the Soviet period for the Uzbek people in 2024 (the 100th anniversary of the creation of the Uzbek SSR, etc.). The main purpose of writing the article is to reveal modern assessments of the history of Central Asian countries in the study of the Soviet period. All these issues are reflected in both Uzbek and Kazakh, Turkmen and Kyrgyz historiography. However, not all publications are unambiguous. The history of the Second World War was in the focus of attention of historians during the Soviet years. The works of the Soviet period occupy their rightful place in the annals of the war and are still valuable today.
