This article examines the experience of the intellectual structure or the cognitive base that
contributed to the development of esports science. The article is devoted to the study of the application of
statistical methods in the field of computer sports (esports) in modern society. The author analyzed the sources
of knowledge in the field of esports. Based on the conducted research, the key features of the development of
the field of esportswere identified. It is shown that the technological boom, gaming as a reference industry, the
availability of technology and access to leading competitions, as well as social distancing caused by COVID19, contributed to the growth of esports. Special attention is paid to the history of esports, the sports industry
has a long history and well-established management structures.
