This article provides a comprehensive exploration of the concept of tolerance from the
perspectives of linguistic cultural studies, sociolinguistics, and intercultural communication. The author
reviews the historical development of the tolerance concept, identifying the lexico-semantic and
metaphorical resources used to convey it in different languages, and examines verbal aggression as its
opposite. Special attention is paid to educational strategies that enhance tolerant attitudes and to the
challenges posed by the spread of hate speech in digital settings. The role of national and cultural traditions
in perceiving and shaping tolerance is highlighted, and practical applications of the findings are discussed.
Directions for future research are proposed, particularly with regard to global online communication and
multicultural educational initiatives.
